SUPPORTERS of the All Progressives Congress under the aegis of APC Rebirth Group, on Tuesday, warned the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary National Working Committee against further delaying the convention.
While welcoming the decision of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), to approve February 2022, as the date for the convention, the group said the caretaker committee should, as a matter of urgency, put in place measures to implement the presidential directive.
This was contained in a statement titled, ‘Concerned APC stakeholders welcome Buhari’s approval of February convention date, and ask the CECPC to immediately commence the process,’ signed by one of its leaders, Aliyu Audu, in Abuja.
The group expressed delight by the news of the approval given by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for the APC national convention to hold in February, 2022.
Audu said, “This news of the directive of the President represents a clear response to our persistent demand for the conduct of the national convention which will give the APC a new leadership that will commence the much needed rebirth of the party in line with its founding principles and ideology.
“Now that the President has given a clear directive on the convention, we call on the Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee, to take the presidential mandate further by immediately commencing the process that will give APC a befitting and transparent convention that all members would be proud of.
“Apart from showing the seriousness it attaches to the approval by the President, the caretaker committee must not only announce a specific date for the convention, it must put all the necessary machinery for the conduct of the convention in place without further delay.
“It is our hope and belief that the caretaker committee will not employ any delay tactics that will result in the need to further postpone the national convention from the February 2022 date as it has done in the past where its six months mandate has extended to almost one and half years.
“The major, if not the only task, before the caretaker committee as at today, is the conduct of the national convention and this must be pursued with all vigor and seriousness it deserves.”
