The Akwa Ibom State Government has said that steady progress were being recorded in the development of Ibom Deep Seaport.

The state Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon, stated this over the weekend, on his arrival at the Victor Attah International Airport, after successful engagements at the Maritime Sector and Harbour Development in Seoul, South Korea.

Speaking with newsmen at the Airport, Mr Okon disclosed that the current administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel remained committed to the actualisation of the Deep Seaport project.

On the programme implementation of the project, Okon revealed that geo-physical and clinical studies for the Port will commence within the shortest time, disclosing also that the Deep Seaport, when completed, will be a transhipment port.

He hinted that the just concluded Maritime Sector and Harbour Development in Seoul, South Korea, afforded the Akwa Ibom delegation an opportunity to create partnership with internationally recognised stakeholders in the maritime sector.

"This trip gave us an opportunity to interact with people in the maritime sector, especially Busan Port Officials. Busan Port is the second largest and easiest Port in the world. It's a transhipment port with 17 Meters draft which is similar to what we have at Ibom Deep Seaport", he said.

Mr. Okon pointed out that useful contacts have been created with the Korean Maritime and Ocean University Officials, assuring Akwa Ibom people of rapid development of Ibom Deep Seaport, which he said will be a game changer.

"The meeting also gave us the opportunity to interact with the Korean Maritime and Ocean University Officials with a view to developing manpower for our citizens that will be able to take advantage of the opportunities that will be created in the Maritime sector as a result of this project. We are looking at areas like Maritime logistics, and other businesses associated with the shipping industry."

"I want to commend Gov. Udom Emmanuel for his determination and commitment that we have Ibom Deep Seaport. This project is going to be a game changer for our state economy, that's why he graciously approved us to be part of the maritime sector and Harvard development program in South Korea.
