The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has challenged the Federal Government to show evidence of where the money it borrowed from external creditors was spent.
He added that Nigeria had enormous resources, if well managed, could change the fortunes of the country and the life of every citizen.
He also said states under the Peoples Democratic Party administration had been doing well.
Wike spoke at the inauguration of the Rumuola Flyover which was performed by a former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
The governor in a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, said his administration was being propelled by commitment to service, which was why it was deploying the state’s resources judiciously for the good of Rivers people.
He said, “This country has enormous resources to change the lives of our people. Nobody should give excuses.
“So, all these stories that you borrowed money from here, and there, let us see what the money is being used for. If we borrowed money, we are showing Rivers people what we used that money to do.”
Wike said it was clear to the opposition that “the governments of the Peoples Democratic Party-controlled states had performed creditable well.”
“Also, this government has done well. This PDP government has done well. None of these flyovers cost us less than N7bn. Now put the average of N7bn into nine and the other roads,” Wike stated.
Wike also said there was the need for his successor to be one who would sustain the current pace of development and even outperform him.
Performing the project inauguration, Mimiko said Wike had proved himself worthy his sobriquet, ‘Mr Project.’
Mimiko also called for restructuring, saying such would guarantee a just, productive and more prosperous nation.
He noted that restructuring was about policies and actions towards getting Nigerian children off the streets into schools for the right kind of education.
“It is also not about Niger Delta oil and gas alone, it is about ensuring that all our God-given minerals, such as gold in Zamfara or Osun is optimally exploited for the people, and not unaccountably by and for a few elites and their rampaging foreign collaborators.”
