For Madam Comfort Elijah, an aged widow from Ikot Akpan Anwa in Ika local government whose housing condition was pitiable, Friday January 21, 2022, will remain evergreen in her memory and that of her loved ones as she became a direct beneficiary of a decent apartment courtesy of Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path-initiative's Shelter of Hope Scheme.
The tastefully-furnished 2 bedroom flat which was inaugurated by the founder of FEYReP and Wife of Akwa Ibom Governor, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, elicited jubilant celebrations from the natives of the community.
The governor's wife in her remarks at the commissioning said, it has been over six years of a rewarding experience having been able to put smiles on people’s faces through the Shelter of Hope Programme. She said with 60 houses so far delivered across the state to many vulnerable families with more to come, the grace of God has been sufficient all these years.
Dr. Emmanuel noted that the housing scheme was initiated to provide comfortable abodes for the poorest of the poor in the state, stressing that it was not only limited to widows or widowers but indigent families, independently verified by a team of FEYReP officials.
The First Lady thanked her husband Mr. Udom Emmanuel whom she described as the Pillar of FEYReP for supporting her vision, stressing that but not for him; the successes recorded over the past six years would not have been possible.
To the beneficiary, the governor’s wife charged her not to lose hope as God has not forgotten her, and as well encouraged that she hold fast on God’s word for her protection. She prayed for her longevity to enjoy her new status and said God will see her through her endeavors.
In her motherly disposition, Dr. Emmanuel also extended her largesse to 50 widows in the area with cash gift and wrappers.
Earlier in her tone setting, the Coordinator of FEYReP, Mrs. Ime Inyang, reeled out the many success stories of FEYReP, stating that the shelter of hope programme has provided 60 comfortable abodes for the vulnerable families in the state.
Goodwill messages were received from the political stakeholders of the area such as; Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko SAN, the Executive Chairman of Etim Ekpo, Hon. Malachy Ukpe, the Paramount Ruler of Ika, His Royal Majesty Okosi Ekot the 3rd, amongst others, who all thanked the governor’s wife for magnanimity and love for the needy across the 31 LGAs, stating that her lofty programmes through FEYReP has impacted many lives in the state.
While declaring their unalloyed support to the succession plan of the administration, they also supported FEYReP with cash presentations for the setting up of the widow with business.
The widow beneficiary, Madam Comfort Elijah flanked by son, in her emotional speech, recounted her ordeal in the past especially after losing her husband years ago and thanked Dr. Emmanuel for rescuing her from the shackles of poverty and as well prayed God almighty to bless and reward her.
Similarly, another widow, Madam Alice Dan from Utu Etim Ekpo, Etim Ekpo local government also became a beneficiary of the governor’s wife compassionate posture on Thursday, January 20, 2022, having been sighted in a deplorable house few months ago by the governor's wife during her visit to the area.
Dr. Emmanuel who ordered for the tatters to be brought down immediately, erected a brand new beautifully furnished house for her pleasure.
