Deconstructing Governor Udom Emmanuel’s One Vote

By Osondu Ahirika

Governor Udom Emmanuel during his tenth media chat said he has just one vote. Let me quote him:

"I have one vote, just one vote. That my vote is for Peace, that my vote is for economic Prosperity, that my vote is for Progress, it is for education, healthcare and more development for our unborn generations. That my vote is against a man who wants to use violence and grab power, any man who uses violence to grab power, will rule by violence "

In casting this One Vote, Pastor Umo Eno was the favoured bebeficiary.

I agree that Governor Emmanuel has one vote. But there's the anatomy of this Vote.

He has voted several times for so many.

His One vote has appointed Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Personal Assistants.

Installed Chairmen of Boards and Parastatals.

Inaugurated Chairmen of Local Government Councils and Councillor's.

Sworn in Judges and Permanent Secretaries.

Enthroned Paramount Rulers with Staff of Office.

His one vote gave many the leap into the National and State Legislatures.

That vote set of Party officials at National, State, Local Government and Ward levels.

His vote of confidence at several stages elevated so many into fortune, influence and privilege.

Oh! You think those who are celebrating Pastor Umo Eno's endorsement and new status of eminence are fools or sycophantic?

But these same persons hailed and congratulated you when His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel in his magnanimity appointed you into high office?

You didn't fault them when loud decibels of congratulations crowded your time line.

It was great when whole clans organized receptions for your new status of public office holder.

Nobody attacked Governor Udom Emmanuel when you got his vote and the city was agog for you.

Why crucify people who are jubilant because this same vote adorned another with the favour and honour of an endorsement?

The same Governor Emmanuel's his One Vote o!

So, you never knew every appointment into high office was also an endorsement from Governor Emmanuel? It was his vote of confidence in the appointees that he cast.

That Thanksgiving everyone who benefitted from his magnanimity held was because of his One Vote exercised for them.

That vote was in effect an annointment of few he called up to serve out of over 6 million Akwa Ibom people?

If Udom was right in making the appointments and it was seen as God's will in the lives of those so privileged, what makes his choice of Pastor Umo Eno wrong and out of sync with the will of the Almighty?

Let me shock you with the bitter truth.

Had it been that vote of endorsement fell on you, there would still be protests of fury.

I would still have been here arguing with those who would condemn your endorsement with equal or more rage, than you now vent on Pastor Eno's choice.

In the end, nobody is loved by everyone.

Governor Emmanuel should be pitied not envied. He could make but just one choice. One Vote is all he's got to cast.

He just did.

Others should celebrate with the one who earned the endorsement and then decide their path going forward.

It's outrageous to deny Governor Emmanuel’s inalienable right to cast his vote howsoever he choses.

It is disgusting to seek to censor, subvert or dismiss his vote.

Moreso untenable that anyone should seek to impose on him who he elects to vote for.

Even if roles were reversed, I'm absolutely certain those protesting wouldn't brook or condone anyone trying to dictate how he/she casts that vote.

Governor Udom Emmanuel has done his. Church is over. He has crossed the Rubicon.

Hand already on the plough looking back is infantile.

If the Governorship Endorsement was in my hands to give, My Choice would equally daze the world of contenders and onlookers.

I had my revelation of who should be Governor too. In the end , Gods will shall be performed.

Governor Emmanuel says he arrived at his preferred successor decision because he loves Akwa Ibom State.

Governor Udom Emmanuel says Pastor Umo Eno is God's Gift to Akwa Ibom State for the new era.

It's his early Valentines Gift. Receive the Gift.

Happy Valentine folks!

We now wait for President Muhammadu Buhari.

His vote for a preferred successor in the All Progressives Congress we all shall see.
