Excitement as A'Ibom First Lady Kits Children of Divine Home for the 2022/23 Academic Session

It was an exciting and emotion-filled Sunday evening at the Divine Children's Home Atan Ofot, Uyo, when the wife of Akwa Ibom Governor, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel kitted over 200 children of the home with educational materials such as school boxes, bags, books, mathematics sets, mattresses and pillows, uniforms, toiletries etc. for the 2022 /23 academic session.

Since coming on board as the governor's wife in 2015, Dr. Emmanuel has seen to it that for every academic session, she prepares and equip the students ranging from primary to tertiary institutions across the state. Now in its 8th season and being the last performed by Her Excellency as the wife of governor, emotions were indeed high as the children could not hide their deep-seated love and affection for the one they refer to as the "mother general with a heart of gold."

From the welcome song, to the poetry rendition and choreography dance, not forgetting the parade performance and the cultural display, it was once again proved that the home was not in short supply of creatives as the children poured out their hearts in appreciation to the governor's wife for her motherly love and support over the years. Crowning it all, was an award of honour bestowed on Her Excellency by the children for her unquantifiable contributions to their welfare and future.

In her remarks at the event, the visibly elated governor's wife, said it was very apt to equip the children for the new session saying; since 2015 when she assumed the role of the mother of the state, she has consistently reached out to them just the same way she treats her biological children.

Dr. Emmanuel who specially thanked God for the lives of the children over the years, added that the educational materials would allow them concentrate on their studies in the new session and reassured of her commitment to their welfare, because they hold a special place in her heart.

While cautioning them not to indulge in behaviors that could hinder their success, she advised that they study hard, be obedient to their teachers and caregivers and most importantly have the fear of God in all they do.

The First Lady appreciated the coordinator and staff of the home for their commitment towards the children and prayed that God will reward their labor of love.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Hon. Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Ini Adiakpan, her Education counterpart, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebiet, and wife of the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 polls, Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, all thanked the governor , Mr Udom Emmanuel for his massive investment in education in the state as well as support towards ensuring that every Akwa Ibom child lives a good life.

They also commended the governor's wife for being a good and caring mother to the children of the home and as well advised the children to repay the governor and wife in good faith by studying to become productive citizens in future.

Earlier, the coordinator of the home, Dr. Idoreyen Ekanem, in her tone setting, thanked the governor's wife for her consistent benevolence towards the children of the home, pointing out that she has provided them with all needed to conquer their different fields of life.

High point of the evening was the sending-forth of Barrister Bright Bassey, a worthy ambassador of the home to her private residence by the governor's wife.
